Soft Matter Mechanics Lab

Sulin Zhang has a 600 sq. ft. laboratory located in 105 Earth and Engineering Science (EES) Building. PI’s office is located at Millennium Science Complex, N231. The lab is equipped with facilities including 6 ft laminar flow hood, an Olympus IX 73 fluorescence microscope equipped with Semprex KM153 micrometer measuring stage; distance-controlled cell stretching system (Electron Microscopy Sciences) with a customized microscopic stage; a VWR inverted microscope; a microscopy live-cell imaging chamber (Warner Instruments); two HERAcell 150i incubators (thermo Scientific); a Model 1300 series biological safety cabinets (Thermo Scientific); Laboratory refrigerators and freezers (Thermo Scientific); a cryobiological storage vessel (Thermo Scientific); a PH meter (VWR); a unstirred water bath (VWR); a centrifuge with angle rotors (VWR); a hot plate-stirrer (VWR); an ultrasonic bath (VWR); a UV-AC hand lamp (VWR); a Vortex mixer (Fisher Scientific); an analytical balance (Mettler Toledo); a vacuum pressure air pump (Gast Manufacturing Corporation); Finnpipettes (Fisherbrand); a vertex mixer (VWR); an incubating shaker (VWR); a 3D printing system (Sindoh); two vacuum desiccators (Sciencware); a variable flow mini-pump (VWR); a bright line counting chamber (Hausser Scientific). The facility is sufficient for the PI to conduct cell culture studies combined with traction force microscopy study.
