Research: Satadru Dey

Satadru Dey’s research focuses on several applications related to energy and transportation infrastructure in smart cities. Some of these applications include:

  • Safety and security of battery systems
  • Fast charging of batteries
  • Health diagnostics of supercapacitors
  • Second-life batteries and supercapacitors
  • Secure connected and autonomous transportation
  • Traffic management of freeways
  • Socio-technical modeling of transportation systems

We design algorithms combining physics-based models, data-driven learning techniques, and systems and control theoretic tools for these applications. These algorithms generally perform one or more of the following tasks:

  • Estimate unknown quantities of interest such as battery health and traffic density.
  • Diagnose anomalies such as battery internal faults and cyber-attacks on vehicles.
  • Control to achieve desired objectives such as battery thermal management and traffic capacity maximization.

Insights, tools, and techniques are used to create algorithms that help estimate the unknown, diagnose anomalies, and control performance.
